10-15-20

Every New Year starts about the same way. I spend the last couple of weeks of December reflecting a bit how the year went, give myself an attaboy for accomplishments, and then I develop a scheme to make the next year better. The New Year resolutions have ranged from getting more sleep, being more organized with my school work, trying to lose weight, or chasing that elusive balanced lifestyle.

Honestly, they never truly last. Maybe bits and pieces of each resolution live on in some form, but I never achieve a lasting change. What did Einstein say? "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Yep, I am insane. I ultimately stay up too late, get behind on my paperwork, and like to eat what I want.

Well this year I am trying something new. Something simple. I am calling it 10-15-20. I will go to bed in the 10 o’clock hour, walk at least 15,000 steps, and maybe lose 20 pounds. I hope I can keep it up. I am struggling at going to bed before 11 pm, but I think sleep is the biggest piece of the challenge. I believe getting more sleep will start a cascade of positive actions. I will keep you posted how it goes.

How about you? Do you have any resolutions for the New Year?

Thank you for reading and have a great weekend!
